Air Freight

The rate for international air freight is based on weight. Weight is calculated in kilograms (one kilogram equals 2.204 pounds). Air carriers charge whichever is greater: real weight or dimensional weight. If the freight is light but large in size, you will be charged the dimensional weight. Air freight rates are calculated using this formula: L (length) x W (width) x H (height) divided by 166 equals weight in pounds x .454 to get the chargeable weight in kilograms.

To provide you with a quote estimate, we will need the following:

Weight and size of the boxes, pallets, or any other shipping units.
Commodity type that you plan to ship.
Point of origin - pick up address if pick up is required.
Will wooden pallets or wooden packaging materials be used? If so, the wood must be heat-treated or fumigated. Read more at http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/trade/trade_programs/agriculture/wpm/
For hazardous shipments, a Material Safety Data Sheet and a Shipper’s Dangerous Goods Declaration.
The final country destination...shipping to some countries is forbidden by U.S. law, e.g. Iran, Sudan, North Korea, to mention a few.
Will you require cargo insurance? Each air freight shipment comes with a maximum liability insurance of $20 per kg.

The following documents will be needed to ship air cargo:

Commercial invoice.
Packing list.
Export License copy, if needed.
A signed Written authorization to prepare for transmit shipper’s export information for shipments with a value of over $2,500. Part of this form is your company IRS number, Dunn & Bradstreet number, or for individuals, the number assigned to you by the U.S. Export Administration.
A signed Why you need to place cargo insurance on every shipment you send form
Any special handling instructions.
